Grade 2 hike, 21.5k with 1035m ascent.
Mr WordPress on Hello world!
So…..my first ascent of Lug @925m. Looking forward to it but…….
Weather was savage up higher. Horizontal wind and rain. Low biz. Boots even let in water, a lot. My fault as I didn’t put on overtrousers.
Two day mountain skills course, mandatory in order to join The Irish Ramblers.
5 Ramblers and 5 others.
Course led by Niall Ennis helped by Emily.
Learned an awful lot about bearings etc , much more than I thought I learned on YouTube.
Just short of 18k. starting from Glenmacnass Waterfall CP. 13 souls on a really nice sunny day.
3+ hike in a new area for me again, Scarr, Drummin, Red Shed, Barton’s Wood (nice camping spots possibly), Lough Dan, Kanturk and down to cars.
Very mixed terrain, the usual stuff. Right foot went “under” possibly three times, definitely twice 🙂
Loads of mushrooms at this time of year and some “magic” ones around Lough Dan area. Cough.
Scout Hut Lough Dan
Lough Dan Cul De Sac
Helping Geraldine C. with the last batch of fresh meat for the club, the Advanced Intro. Hike, supposedly at a 3+ pace but turned out a tad slower, a few casualties. To be expected, that’s fine.
One guy had to be brought back about 7k. in. Collapsed about 4 times, well…..fell. I had to take a girls pack up the Camaderry ascent, she was lagging too far behind and couldn’t cope. Nice and heavy it was, hanging from one shoulder with my pack on my back. Balance was all over the shop 🙂 Was grand, good workout if anything. You’d want to see the size of her coffee flask though………….and other stuff…..
Conditions for the most part were low cloud, foggy, zero breeze and midges on hilltops when you stopped. Extremely hot going, clammy.
19.5k, Pinnacle, Corriebracks, Lobawn, Sugarloaf and cars.
Only 7 of us, led by Damian Cassells. Weather very good and dry. Route mostly as a few weeks ago so I seemed to find it easier (holding back a bit)…….maybe fitness is improving
Could be a move up to Grade 2’s…….. 😉
Next Sunday it’s helping out with Geraldine Cleary on the “Advanced Intro Hike”, fresh meat.
Almost 18k. with an 805m elevation.
23 on this Thursday hike, quite a big number apparently, but maybe my last Thursday hike for a while as I was on holidays for two weeks.
Croghanmoira @716m. was a tough, uphill struggle through heather mostly.
Some road walking and hiking through woods is always nice,
…..finishing up with a stretch along The Wicklow Way back to Iron Bridge CP and back then to Glenmalure Lodge where some of us carpooled.
That’s my fourth Grade 3+ hike completed and am now allowed to take out full membership of The Irish Ramblers club after I complete my MS1 two day mountain skills course in early October (booked).
